The Open Days take place at The Old Vicarage in Leigh-on-Mendip, Somerset. We're just 10 minutes from Frome, 15 minutes from Bruton and around 25 minutes south of Bath.

While many visitors join us from the South West, others travel from much further afield and make the most of a day exploring Somerset's gardens, countryside and independent towns.

No. Kitchen Garden Open Days are free to attend and there's no need to book. Simply come along any time during the advertised opening hours.

Please don't use our postcode for navigation, as it may direct you to a depot around 500 metres away.

As you enter the village, look out for Leigh-on-Mendip Primary School. You're in the right place. The Old Vicarage sits on one side of the small triangle of roads that wraps around Island Cottage. It's easy to take the wrong fork and drive out of the village, so keep an eye out for our two large Kitchen Garden Open Day banner signs mounted on the stone walls on either side of the entrance gate during Kitchen Garden Open Days.

Mobile phone reception in Leigh-on-Mendip is limited and, as The Old Vicarage sits at the lowest point in the village, there is little or no mobile signal here.

To help you stay connected, we provide complimentary guest Wi-Fi throughout the house and gardens. Simply ask a member of the team when you arrive and we'll be happy to help you connect. If your phone has Wi-Fi Calling enabled, you'll also be able to make and receive calls during your visit.

Our Open Days are a chance to explore the productive gardens at The Old Vicarage, discover seasonal growing techniques and enjoy an informal day in the garden.

Depending on the day, there may also be gardening talks, opportunities to ask questions, antiques, and guest exhibitors.

Yes. Pennard Plants offer a wide selection of vegetable plants, fruit, herbs, seeds and seasonal favourites, with expert advice available throughout the day.

Yes. If you've placed an order with Pennard Plants, you're welcome to collect it during one of our Open Days. Please arrange this with the Pennard Plants team in advance so they can have your order ready for collection when you arrive.

Yes. Alongside plants and seeds from Pennard Plants, you'll find a carefully curated selection of gardening items, antiques and heritage-inspired pieces to browse during your visit.

Each Open Day features a different collection, thoughtfully sourced by Julia, so there's always something new to discover. Whether you're looking for a practical tool, an unusual garden find or an object with a story to tell, we hope you'll enjoy exploring the changing displays.

Yes. Freshly brewed tea and coffee, homemade cakes and other refreshments are available to purchase throughout the day. Nicole's cakes have become something of a favourite with our regular visitors.

Absolutely. Many visitors come on their own and you'll always receive a warm welcome.

The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy conversation with other gardeners over coffee and cake if you wish.

Very much so. Many people visit with friends or family, enjoying time in the garden together before sitting down for refreshments or browsing the plants.

A little rain rarely changes our plans.

We'll always do our best to keep you dry and comfortable.

We have a fleet of umbrellas on hand, pop-up gazebos for shelter, and can retreat to the polytunnel or glasshouse during passing showers.

The cafe is set-up under cover if rain is forecast (and in the shade of the willow tree for hot days).

We recommend suitable footwear, particularly if you've come to explore the garden.

The Old Vicarage is a historic house set into the Mendip Hills, with gardens arranged across a series of terraces. This means some areas include uneven paths and steps.

To reach the Kitchen Garden from the front of the house, there are five short flights of steps, with around 20 steps in total. If you'd prefer to avoid steps, we also have a step-free route through the grounds. A member of the team will be happy to accompany you, and we have a wheelchair available should you need assistance reaching the Kitchen Garden.

We want as many people as possible to enjoy their visit. If you have any accessibility or mobility requirements, please get in touch before your visit. We'll be happy to talk through the layout of the site, any potential limitations, and the reasonable adjustments we may be able to make to help you enjoy your day.

Yes. Visitors are very welcome to use the ground floor toilet in The Old Vicarage during the Open Day. As it's located within the house, a member of the team will simply escort you in and out whenever you need it.

We don't provide on-site parking for Open Days. Instead, we ask visitors to park considerately in the village, where there is usually plenty of space just a 30-second walk from The Old Vicarage.

If you've purchased plants, seeds or other items, a member of the team will be happy to help carry them to your car. If you'd prefer, we'll also guide you into the front of the property so you can load your purchases before continuing your journey home.

Yes. We hope you do. Many visitors enjoy photographing the garden, the plants and the seasonal displays, and we always love seeing your photographs. If you share them on social media, we'd be delighted if you tagged Asterion & Co. and Pennard Plants.

We simply ask everyone to be considerate of other visitors by avoiding photographs of people you don't know or who haven't given their permission.

All of the team are happy to appear in photographs and are always pleased to take a picture of you in the garden too. Just ask one of us.

Yes. Well-behaved dogs are welcome at our Open Days, provided they are kept on a lead at all times.

We simply ask owners to be considerate of other visitors by keeping their dog under close control and remembering that not everyone is comfortable around dogs. Our aim is for everyone to enjoy a relaxed and welcoming visit.

Asterion & Co. is home to two much-loved dogs, but during Open Days they are kept away from visitors.

Our Open Days are just one part of Asterion & Co.

Throughout the year we also run small-group workshops in gardening, art, craft and Life School.
